Very saidly and unexpectedly Camiel Zwart passed away on 8 May 2021. He was a remarkable filmmaker and teacher and above all a very nice and open hearted person! – He is and will be missed.

In this masterclass, Camiel Zwart charts the basics of the creative process in making a dance film. In just three hours you will use your smartphone or iPad to create a dance film from script to screening. Different types of ‘shots’ découpage, filming movement for film and how to assemble this footage into an upbeat dance film; all this will be scrutinised. By the end of the afternoon you will have created your own personal dance film!
Camiel Zwart graduated from the Dutch Film Academy with a diploma in directing in 2006. With his own production company Blackframe he has since created several award-winning short documentaries such as Together Alone, On Our Own as well as longer documentaries such as Past Perfect Tense, Terror, source of fear and The Debt Machine. Camiel has also always had a passion for the dance film genre and has created and produced numerous short dance films, most recently the multi-award winning Platform 13. For Camiel, cinema and dance are made for each other and reinforce each other. He believes that the best way to create a fascinating story for the big screen is through movement rather than words. In this way, film is different from literature. Through the use of choreography in film, movement and cinema are combined and both can reach their maximum potential. Camiel teaches regularly, internationally for Cinedans LAB, the education and research platform of Cinedans Amsterdam.
Cinedans LAB is the education and research division of Cinedans that supports beginning and established makers to deepen the dance film as a genre and to stimulate it. The LAB has an eye for the latest technological developments, supports innovative projects and organizes intensive workshops in the field of new technology in combination with dance.

Unerwartet ist Camiel Zwart am 8. Mai 2021 verstorben. Er war ein bemerkenswerter Filmemacher und Dozent und vor allem ein sehr netter und offenherziger Mensch! – Wir vermissen ihn.

Camiel Zwart absolvierte die niederländische Filmakademie und schloss diese in 2006 mit dem Diplom für Regie ab. Bei seiner eigenen Produktionsfirma Blackframe erschuf er seither mehrere preisgekrönte Kurzdokumentationen wie Together Alone, On Our Own als auch längere Dokus wie Past Perfect Tense, Terror, source of fear und The Debt Machine. Camiel hatte ausserdem schon immer eine Leidenschaft für das Genre Tanzfilm und kreierte und produzierte zahlreiche Kurztanzfilme, zuletzt den mehrmals preisgekrönten Film Platform 13. Für Camiel sind Kino und Tanz füreinander geschaffen und verstärken sich gegenseitig. Er ist der Meinung, dass die beste Art eine faszinierende Geschichte für die grosse Leinwand zu erschaffen, eher durch Bewegung als durch Worte geschieht. Auf diese Weise unterscheidet sich Film von Literatur. Durch den Gebrauch von Choreografie im Film wird Bewegung und Kino kombiniert und kann beides sein maximales Potenzial entfalten. Camiel unterrichtet regelmässig, international für Cinedans LAB, die Bildungs- und Forschungsplattform von Cinedans Amsterdam.

Die Teilnahme an einer DOS-Masterclass beinhaltet jeweils auch den Besuch des laufenden DANCE ON SCREEN – Filmprogramms.
